Irish building contractors target €700m London Olympic windfall

Enterprise Ireland says Irish contractors could win up to E700m in contracts for the London 2012 Olympics creating manynew job opportunities for professionals and experienced trades people.

The Body has said that it has been working on capitalising on the Games for some time and has held meetings with Irish contractors in Britain who will be involved with the project. The cost of the London games shot up from an initial figure of £2.35 billion (E3.4bn) to £9bn.
Enterprise Ireland held a conference, ‘Building Towards London’, on 14 November at the Stillorgan Park Hotel in Dublin, which was attended by is attended by 160 Irish companies interested in seeking opportunities on the development of projects for the London Olympics.

Over the next 18 months alone, the Olympic Delivery Authority will place 250 major contracts and over 2000 smaller contracts out to tender. Irish industry is in a strong position to contribute to the successful delivery of the games and its legacy.
