Continuing strong performances by the Irish civils and commercial construction sectors indicate that job opportunities still remain strong in the many areas of the Irish constriction industry. However the house building sector needs urgent attention of a decline in output is to be decelerated.

At the launch of its Annual Review the Irish Construction Industry Federation (CIF) called for Government action on Stamp Duty to halt the slump in the Irish housing market. In its Review it states that other sectors of the industry are performing robustly. But there were a few areas of concern.
CIF president Hank Fogarty demanded the full implementation of National Development Plan 2007-2013 (NDP), tax incentives for private investors in public projects and a delay on regulations for green measures on new buildings, with more focus on greater energy efficiency in existing buildings.
The Irish construction industry continues to enjoy growth in other sectors as work increases in non-residential and public infrastructure projects. The CIF also pointed to growth in the home improvements and renovation market.
At a recent conference, Ireland’s Environment Minister John Gormley TD said that he remains committed to the Irish Government’s capital investment commitments made under the NDP.
He outlined the Government's commitment to aligning the regional development dimension of the NDP and Transport 21, with the National Spatial Strategy objectives and the prioritisation of capital investment in line with the Strategy.
He said that between 2007 and 2013 the Government will make an investment of about €13bn in public transport, “four times the level of investment under the previous plan.
