UK Employment hits 29.4 million record
Published 14 Feb 2008

New statistics released by the UK Office of National Statistics reveal that the number of people employed in the UK at the end of 2007 was close to 30 million. This is considerably higher than previously thought, and vacancy statistics indicate that the 30 million mark could be passed in the not too distant future.

According to the UK Office of National Statistics 29.4 million people were employed in the UK in the three months to December 2007. The number of vacancies in the UK for that period was also high at 677,400 with redundancies at their lowest level since records began in 1995.

All this bodes well for UK construction jobs as the global recruitment drive to recruit skilled construction workers and construction professionals to maintain momentum on major schemes, such as the London Olympics infrastructure programme, continues.
